ANTI-DIABETIC PROJECTS
Most of the mortality attributable to Diabetes mellitus is as a result of poor management practices leading to persistently high glucose levels, which often results in acute and chronic microvascular and macrovascular complications. The common complications associated with the disease include cardiovascular disease (CVD), blindness, kidney failure, and lower-limb amputation.
In Nigeria, the general management of Diabetes mellitus is reported to be suboptimal.
To this end, NNMDA Research Team formulated the Ocimum Herbal Tea to reduce the hyperglycemic crises by adequately controlling blood sugar in the system. This product is already listed with NAFDAC

MANAGEMENT OF SKIN DISEASE
The human skin is a rich environment for microbes. Around 1000 species of bacteria from 19 bacterial phyla have been found. Most come from only four phyla: Actinobacteria (51.8%), Firmicutes (24.4%), Proteobacteria (16.5%), and Bacteroidetes (6.3%). Propionibacteria and Staphylococci species are the main species in sebaceous areas. It has been estimated that the number of individual bacteria on the surface of one square inch (6.5 square cm) of human skin is about 50 million. In Africa, skin infection is very common among children.
Skin diseases are among the common childhood problems of public health importance in Nigeria. Poor personal hygiene practices especially among children are believed to be contributory to its prevalence. Accurately determining the epidemiology of dermatological disease on both national and worldwide levels has been a challenge for several reasons. Some of the most common problems are acne, eczema, xerosis, psoriasis, contact, skin cancers or precursors to skin neoplasms, and herpetic infections and warts.

CANCER INTERVENTION PROJECT
According to the international Agency for Research on cancer estimates of the incidence of mortality and prevalence from major types of cancer, at national level, for 184 countries of the world revealed that there were 14.1 million new cancer cases, 8.2 million cancer deaths, and 32.6 million people living with cancer in 2012 worldwide.By 2030 it is projected that there will be 26 million new cancer cases and 17 million cancer death per year and 70% of which will be from developing countries.
Nigeria has a rich cultural heritage of herbals and herbal extracts for controlling various health conditions. In Nigeria, cancer leads to over 70 000 deaths per annum (28 414 for male and 41 913 for female). It is estimated that breast cancer with 25.7%, cervix uteri by 14.6% and prostate cancer by 12.8% are leading causes cancer deaths in Nigeria.
The Agency’s home grown cancer solutions was formulated to effectively manage breast and prostate cancer.

ANTI-HYPERTENSION PRODUCT
According to WHO criteria hypertension means elevated blood pressure levels above 140/90 mmHg (Lifton, 2016). It has been named the “silent killer,” as it is asymptomatic and the major contributor or risk factor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
Most antihypertensive drugs are characterized by high cost, poor compliance with long-term use among patients, lack of definitive curative regimen, and combination therapy, which hinders drug adherence, increase the risk of side effects (reduced renal function, Angioedema among others) as well as drug-drug interactions.
There is a great deal of scientific evidence to suggest that the use of carefully chosen herbal remedies and dietary supplements can help to lower blood pressure, as well as to improve the overall functioning of heart, arteries, and entire cardiovascular system, this has necessitated research of this nature and development of herbal therapy for the management of high blood pressure.
GLAUCOMA EYE CARE
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which result in damage to the optic nerve and vision loss, a major risk factor is increased pressure in the eye, high IOP (above 21mmHg) is the Major risk factor of glaucoma.
This project is essentially designed to manage glaucoma through formulation and development of safe and effective herbal product that could be used without having any negative impact on the health of the user.

NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASE
Nigeria has the largest burden of Neglected Tropical Diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, accounting 25% of the continent’s total Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) burden. The prospects for the control and prevention of NTDs including soil transmitted helminthiasis, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis and trachoma through mass drug administration (MIDA) in Nigeria have been faced with major challenges resulting from suboptimal coverage and lack of efficacy.
We have developed a vector control solutions-herbal sprays and repellant creams to reduce black flies, Sand flies contact that can be used in endemic communities.
LIVESTOCK DISEASES
The livestock sector has a global value of about US$1.4 trillion, employing 1.3 billion people globally and directly supporting the livestock of 1 billion small holder farmers in the developing world.
In Nigeria, livestock production is an integral part of agriculture and is vital to the socioeconomic development of the country, contributing approximately 1.7% to its National Gross domestic product.
Coccidiosis and helminthiasis are the major parasitic diseases threatening poultry production, while fowl typhoid, fowl cholera and chronic respiratory diseases are the bacteria infection responsible for loses in the poultry industry. Parasitism causes reduced growth, egg production, emaciation and anaemia as well as mortality.
