It was an unprecedented recognition, as the Director-General/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), Prof. Martins Emeje, delivered a series of high-impact research lectures at De Montfort University, Leicester, United Kingdom. This event has gained Nigeria a leading global position in the research and development of natural medicine.
The Director-General, who assumed the affairs of NNMDA in 2023, took advantage of the international platform to showcase Nigeria’s research efforts and accomplishments in Natural medicine and drug development to a gathering of top university researchers, graduate and postgraduate students. During his lectures and other official engagements, Prof. Emeje, proudly represented Nigeria and NNMDA by donning the Agency’s official branded attire.
In the course of the engagements, the DG was given a guided tour of De Montfort University’s state-of-the-art Mass Spectrometry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) laboratories. These are currently the core facilities for advanced pharmaceutical and biomedical research in the world. This engagement has successfully opened a new vista for future collaboration between NNMDA and global research institutions on natural medicine research, development and training.
This was not only a personal honour for Prof. Emeje, but most importantly, a proud milestone for NNMDA and Nigeria, reinforcing the Agency’s growing credibility and international partnerships in natural medicine development, scientific innovation and technology transfer.
This visit testifies to the DG’s globally recognised leadership and unwavering commitment to repositioning Nigeria as a leading voice in natural medicine research.
